How I use my Substack:

I use my Substack as a portfolio blog of my digital art and experimental music. Each newsletter/blog post is a new addition to my music video portfolio. Paid subscribers have access to my entire portfolio of music videos. Along with exclusive new video content as a paid subscriber you also get to read my personal weekly journal of things going on in my life, like my gardening tips, recipes, Victory Garden posters, and the Las Vegas entertainment and cultural events I cover during the week. Included in my journal is free downloadable content, photos, recipes, posters, desktop wallpaper, and my weekly words of wisdom.

A new regular weekly feature is “The Synergy Project”. These videos are the collaborative work of Joyce Joseph, “K” (AKA “fractal caleidoscope”) and myself.

About the artist:

Stephen Robert Thorburn graduated from Pascack Valley High School in New Jersey where he majored in Fine Art. He then went on to gain a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from California College of Arts and Crafts (renamed California College of the Arts) in Oakland. Stephen was awarded a one man show, featuring his mandala paintings, at Artist’s Embassy International in San Francisco. He developed the first animations and video for an outdoor marquees on the Las Vegas Strip, and has been innovative in video advertising and casino marketing for many of the strip properties.  Well known internationally as an independent video artist, Stephen has developed a personal art form and style with the ‘digital art music video’ concept in mind.

With the discovery of the first version of Lightwave 3D on an Apple IIe, a whole new world in creativity opened up for Stephen that allowed him to advance from stationary hand painted mandalas to full motion video. With computer hardware capable of higher resolutions, Stephen was able to achieve a greater level of sophistication to his work.  The early introduction of improved audio editing software also made it possible for Stephen to compose experimental music to accompany the video art that has culminated in a true 4K ‘digital art music video’ experience.

“The Synergy Project”:

Since January of 2018 I have been working with the two top fractal artists in the world today, Joyce Joseph and “K” (fractal caleidoscope) in an ongoing collaborative project we call “The Synergy Project”. The numbered video series titled “SYNERGY 01…” represent the work of our trio of artists.

Joyce and “K” regularly send me several of their beautiful high resolution fractal images. I animate these and add a music score to them. The final .mp4 is rendered in 4K UHD for upload to Youtube. Links to these are now included as a regular feature here.

Say NO to so-called “artificial intelligence”!

No artificial intelligence (AI) is ever used in the production of any of my music videos. AI is a soulless mimic, void of any real humanity.

True art is a reflection of the divine as expressed through the medium of the artist’s choosing. AI will never really understand or experience what that means, or know the passion which motivates the artist, or the joy attendant in watching a dance recital, hearing a symphony perform, or sitting in front of a painting by one of the great masters.

Everything AI produces reflects this fact.

I won’t use it. Never have. Never will.
