How I use my Substack:
I use my Substack as a portfolio blog of my digital art and experimental music. Each newsletter/blog post is a new addition to my music video portfolio. Paid subscribers have access to my entire portfolio of music videos. Along with exclusive new video content as a paid subscriber you also get to read my personal weekly journal of things going on in my life, like my gardening tips, recipes, Victory Garden posters, and the Las Vegas entertainment and cultural events I cover during the week. Included in my journal is free downloadable content, photos, recipes, posters, desktop wallpaper, and my weekly words of wisdom.
A new regular weekly feature is “The Synergy Project”. These videos are the collaborative work of Joyce Joseph, “K” (AKA “fractal caleidoscope”) and myself.
About the artist:
About the artist:
Stephen Robert Thorburn graduated from Pascack Valley High School in New Jersey where he majored in Art. He then went on to gain a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from California College of Arts and Crafts (renamed California College of the Arts) in Oakland. Stephen was awarded a one man show, featuring his mandala paintings, at Artist’s Embassy International in San Francisco.
Well known internationally as an independent video artist, Stephen has developed a personal art form and style with the ‘digital art music video’ concept in mind.
With the discovery of the first version of Lightwave 3D on an Apple IIe, a whole new world in creativity opened up for Stephen that allowed him to advance from stationary hand painted mandalas to full motion video. With computer hardware capable of higher resolutions, he was able to achieve a greater level of sophistication to his work. The early introduction of improved audio editing software also made it possible for him to compose experimental music to accompany the video art that has culminated in a true 4K ‘digital art music video’ experience.
For 5 years Stephen worked on a collaborative project with two of the world’s premier fractal artists, Joyce Joseph, and another who prefers to be known as “K” Together they comprise “The Synergy Project” and have produced over 200 meditation music videos from its inception until the project’s official close in 2024.
In January of 2023 Stephen began publishing a weekly newsletter on Substack. Every Friday at 6pm he sends out his newsletter for the week featuring his music videos, a Synergy video, digital art, recipes, gardening tips, words of wisdom, and a whole lot more. Also included in each week’s publication are entertainment events and happenings he attends. It is a weekly personal journal of the artist in the form of a permanent blog on his Substack page.

Say NO to so-called “artificial intelligence”!
No artificial intelligence (AI) is ever used in the production of any of my music videos. AI is a soulless mimic, void of any real humanity.
True art is a reflection of the divine as expressed through the medium of the artist’s choosing. AI will never really understand or experience what that means, or know the passion which motivates the artist, or the joy attendant in watching a dance recital, hearing a symphony perform, or sitting in front of a painting by one of the great masters.
Everything AI produces reflects this fact.
I won’t use it. Never have. Never will.
